I love the debate over whether google can be used as a verb. I was given a great reminder of how pervasive the term has become this weekend.
I took my family to the Vue Cinema in Portsmouth to watch the new Shrek movie, which we all really enjoyed.
The cinema was showing local ads as part of the introduction when I noticed the contact details for one local company. Just above the usual telephone number and web address they had the line “Simply google XYZ Service to find out more…”. And yes, it was written with a small “g”.
They must be confident of their position in the natural results or they may be running a PPC campaign to ensure they are first. It was interesting that they asked the potential customer to google the service, rather than their company name.
Well the term is part of the Oxford Dictionary now, so I guess the debate is all but over.
