The Mere Literary Festival is an annual event that raises money for the Mere & District Linkscheme. A charity that provides transport for those in need in and around Mere.

There is a new team running the Literary Festival in Mere (our home town) and they required a new website for the 2020 event. Sugar were approached to come up with a design that carried forward the new branding established for the event. We worked with the existing graphic designer to keep the look consistent and offer a layout that reflected the new typography and colour scheme.

The Literary Festival website needs to serve a number of different audiences including

  • Attraction of new authors for future events.
  • Encourage festival goers to become a “friend” of the festival.
  • Invite locals that are interested to become a festival “helper”.

The site has been designed to reflect these aims in various ways. This includes showing galleries from the previous year and having clear “call to actions” for the different audience types.

Ongoing Work

Moving forward we’re supporting the Festival team with ongoing updates and promotions including the active Mailchimp account they manage.

Technical Notes

On the technical side the site is built using the Zurb Foundation responsive framework. Additional functionality is provided by a number of WordPress plugins including Gravity FormsiThemes SecurityJetpack, and Yoast’s SEO plugin. We appreciate all the work these developers put into this software!

WordPress Experts

At Sugar we made a bet on WordPress back in version 2. At the time it was just another CMS option out there, without the impact it enjoys years later. We’re thankful to the amazing community that keeps this Open Source project going.

Extending WordPress

WordPress plugins allow us to extend the functionality available. These are a few that we use regularly.
