Ski 2 have been offering ski holidays to Champoluc in Italy for more than 15 years. Recently the team started featuring accommodation in the Portes du Soleil ski area. Being the more established website, the Champoluc presentation took the lead in the recent redesign. The challenge for the Sugar team was to come up with a layout that worked for both the established site and the new, growing Portes du Soleil offering.
During the ski season the site is constantly being updated and changed to reflect the updates in the resorts. Accommodation is added and removed, snow reports are featured, advertising campaigns are running and a vibrant social media presence is supported. This means the site needs to be easy to update and must be able to respond to the changing needs of the business. For the recent redesign Sugar have wholeheartedly embraced the new Gutenberg editor. So far we have been very impressed with the new editor and have not hesitated in recommending it’s use in all new WordPress projects.
Along with getting to grips with the new editor we had to account for the needs of the two sites. During the design phase we worked extensively with the client to settle on layouts that would work well for both countries. There are aspects of difference between the resorts (for e.g. Champoluc features hotels, Les Gets and Morzine accommodation is primarily chalets), so each aspect needed to be though through carefully. Having similar templates made the build process for the second site much easier. Saving time and keeping the editing process consistent.
Sugar have worked with the Ski 2 team over a number of seasons now. We help to keep the websites updated leading up to the ski season and make changes to the accommodation inventory as needed. In addition we develop and run a full advertising campaign for both sites, these feature a variety of ad formats all pointing to custom-built landing pages. A full monitoring and reporting service is offered on the back of this spend. Sugar also assist with ongoing social media posts and updates including the fun webcam timeline videos.
On the technical side the site is built using the Zurb Foundation responsive framework. Additional functionality is provided by a number of WordPress plugins including Gravity Forms, iThemes Security, Jetpack, and Yoast’s SEO plugin. We appreciate all the work these developers put into their software!
