We’ve been working with the Ski 2 team since 2010 and now feel as though we’re part of the marketing team. The Ski 2 sites offer a unique challenge because of the seasonal nature of the business. Over the ski season the sites can experience a tenfold growth in traffic. This poses a unique challenge for hosting, it has taken a few years to find the right mix of hardware and software to keep things running smoothly.
The Champoluc sites features a large inventory of hotels and chalets available to book as part of the package. For this version of the site we built a “Sort by feature” icon system which helps when choosing which hotel to book. The hotels also feature a unique rating system. This allows the accommodation to carry a rating from Ski 2 staff, as well as a rating from visiting guests. In some cases our review facility has attracted over 50 responses!
The ongoing marketing programme for Ski 2 is extensive and includes ongoing site optimisation, content development, email campaigns, advertising and social media. During the season this activity becomes more intense as the number of campaigns running ramps up. At the same time as managing the different marketing activities, the Sugar team will be able to give you an accurate snow report for conditions on the ground in Italy or France. Not something which is that easy to achieve!
On the technical side the Ski 2 sites are built using the Zurb Foundation responsive framework. This helps to ensure the site performs well on mobile screens, a growing part of the traffic. Extra help for the WordPress install is provided by a number of plugins including Gravity Forms, iThemes Security, WP Rocket, Jetpack, Comment Rating Pro, Toolset Types and Yoast’s SEO plugin.
